04.12.23 Town Hall on Homelessness

Registration is closed for this event
Learn about Austin's homeless response system, hear directly from people experiencing homelessness on barriers to housing, and join THRA in discussing solutions to the crisis and what investments we hope to see in the upcoming budget cycle.

What: Invest in Ending Homelessness Town Hall

When: Wednesday April 12th, 2:00-4:00pm

Where: Trinity Center Gym, 304 E 7th St.

Who: Unhoused community members and service providers

Austin is facing a devastating housing crisis: over 5,000 people experience homelessness on any given night. Right now unhoused Austinites have to depend on broken housing vouchers while waiting years for supportive housing to be built. Meanwhile, Austin lacks enough shelter beds while some shelters abruptly close, and the City is actively destroying encampments. Many don't know where to turn, what resources exist, or what the City's commitments are to support unhoused Austinites.

We know there are solutions to this crisis. With $350 million in new housing bond funds, millions coming to Austin in opioid settlement funds, and through the upcoming budget session, Austin has the resources to build a more caring and compassionate City. This year, we need meaningful investments in housing, shelter, and social services, and greater transparency and communication with unhoused Austinites about the City's homeless response system.

Please join us to hear directly from those impacted by our homeless response system at our town hall. During the first hour, we will provide training on the pathway to find housing in Austin. We'll discuss the various resources and tools that exist, and share a handout. During the second hour, we'll discuss solutions to the crisis and what investments we hope to see in the upcoming City budget session.
